The political crisis that has been rocking the Social Democratic Front (SDF) has teetered towards its “denouement” this Sunday.
Jean Michel Nintcheu announced to the media that the party’s Littoral Regional Executive Committee has unanimously decided to oust Joshua Osih in accordance with article 8.2 of the party’s regulation.
SDF’s article 8.2 targets members who flout party rules and commit offences that violate the ideals of the opposition party — which was founded in the 1990s.
In a statement this Sunday, Jean Michel Nintcheu who was wearing the party’s fabric told the gathered press that the extraordinary session was called upon to save the party’s image he claimed “has been tarnished by an unprincipled member of the party; Joshua Osih.”
“This meeting was imperative, to safe the party’s image. The party has been on the news lately, with so many negative things being said after the Vice President decided to drag its image through the mud. We cannot allow that to happen,” Nintcheu told the press.
The dismissal of Joshua Osih effectively widens Nitcheu’s path to the SDF’s presidency and broadens his influence within the party.
Mr Nintcheu accused his adversary within the party of corruption and now Mr Osih seems to have paid a heavy price with his political future shattered.
The dismissal of a potent political rival under the auspices of Jean Michel Nintcheu divulges Mr Nintcheu’s confrontational tactics and ambitions to succeed Ni John Fru Ndi.
As the troubled waters within the SDF appear to be calming down, observers believe authorities in Yaounde is watching Mr Nintcheu’s manœuvres carefully and decide if he poses any threat as Fru Ndi once did to the regime in place.
