Search underway for Nanga Eboko plane crash victims

A search operation is underway in Nanga Eboko, Upper Sanaga division Centre region for 11 persons who were onboard an aircraft that crashed in the administrative unit yesterday.

In a release following the incident, Transport Minister, Jean Ernest Masena Ngale Bibehe urged residents in the area where the plane is believed to have crashed to do their best to facilitate rescue efforts.

There are, however, fears that none of those on board the plane would still be alive.

The non-cargo aircraft which is said to have crashed around 2PM, Wednesday May 11, reports say, is one of type DHC-6-400 and had as matriculation number TJ-TIM.

Most of those who were on board the plane have been identified as staff of COTCO and Doualair companies.

Sources say plane left the Nsimalen International Airport in Yaounde at 11:48 AM but soon lost contact with the tower.

In the meantime, the cause of the crash is yet to be established.

But many are now speculating that the incident could be connected to yesterday’s poor weather and heavy rains recorded in the Centre region.
