Security forces raid Tiko, many arrested

Locals of Likomba- Tiko in Fako division, South West region have been indoors all morning.

Scared of stepping outside since 4AM, they say a mixed contingent of elements of the army are carrying out a random search of the area.

A source says the elements are “… making a home to home search, taking children and young men away.”

The arrested, he confirms were taken to the national gendarmerie in Tiko.

In a usual fashion, no explanation has been given for the action, leaving locals confused and speculating.

“It might have been necessitated by last Tuesday’s gun battle with the separatist fighters” one suggests.

Among those hurt in last week’s exchange with between the military and separatist fighters is a taxi driver who was shot dead.
