Security Forces Safely Detonate Explosive Device in Nkwen

Security forces in Bamenda have safely detonated a locally-made explosive device allegedly planted by separatist fighters near the entrance to New Road Junction at Mile 2 Nkwen, Mezam Division. The device, discovered early Friday morning, led to the complete blockage of the area, disrupting traffic and altering daily routines.

Eyewitnesses told MMI that an Ambazonian flag and a rubber container were placed at the site.

“As early as 5 AM, we saw security forces fully mobilized around the area. It was only after the detonation that I understood what was going on,” said Christian, a commercial bike rider.

The process left school children stranded. Many commuters resorted to navigating through narrow shortcuts within the neighborhood.

“We heard the loud sound from the detonation. Initially, we feared casualties since this area is usually crowded with schoolchildren and buses entering Bamenda,” said John Paul, a resident.

Security forces have not yet issued an official statement on the incident. However, locals of Nkwen acknowledge their efforts in handling such threats.

“I think the security forces deserve our support. Between February 11 and today, I have learned of five explosives safely detonated just around town. Imagine if they were not vigilant?” said Martha, a roadside vendor.

Tensions, however, remain high in Bamenda, a city that has frequently experienced security challenges due to the ongoing Anglophone crisis.

The local population are also increasingly becoming vigilant given that such explosions in the past has led to injuries and dead.
