Separatist attack on Konye Gendarmerie Brigade leaves one officer dead

Separatists fighters have launched an assault against the Konye gendarmerie brigade in Meme division of the South West region, leaving one officer dead.

The state run security base came under attack early Thursday June 24, 2022.

Fighters linked to the Southern Cameroons Defense Force, SOCADEF, can be heard in a viral video, claiming responsibility for the assault.

The amateur footage shows separatists advancing towards the gendarmerie brigade in a heavy gunfire shoot out.

“We are here at Konye gendarmerie brigade today June 24. We the Southern Cameroons Defense Force are taking it over today, and we must,” one of the fighters is heard saying in the viral video.

“We have pushed them away, only one is remaining there now on the file(chain cutter). We will sieze it,” continued the fighter.

At the time of this report,there was no further details on what happened after the attack.
