Separatist fighters Attack school, Behead Soldier in West Region

A band of separatist fighters are reported to have attacked a school in Bamenyam in Galim in the West region of Cameroon Tuesday January 25, beheading a soldier in the process.

The separatists fighters are said to have crossed over from the neighbouring restive English-speaking North West region to stage the attack. Reports say, the fighters were targeting in school but diverted to facing soldiers who thwarted their plans.

Security forces are said to have battled the separatist fighters submission but a soldier lost his life in the gunfire exchanges. In a video that went viral online, the separatist fighters are seen using a machete to hack the soldier.

The separatist fighters further fired shots into the air, as they challenged the military. One of the separatist fighters was later seen admitting in a video of having been shot on the arm. An unspecified number of his peers, we gathered were injured in the battle.

Yesterday’s attack is not the first in the predominantly French-speaking West Region. To note that yesterday, the regional capital, Bafoussam hosted a round of 16 match of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

The match pitted Senegal against Cape Verde. No incident was reported in the game.
