Separatist fighters impose lockdown in Kumbo over military harassment of civilians

Residents of Kumbo in Cameroon’s North West region are experiencing a lockdown imposed by separatist fighters.

They move, the fighters claim, is in response to government aggressiveness.

“They have imposed a lockdown because of persistent military harassment of civilians” a source tells MMI.

“From Kikaikom to Mbve market to Tadu, they say they want to keep civilians out of harms way and battle” he adds.

The separatists he says, “… say they want to keep civilians out of harms way and battle.”

The move however has not been welcomed by all, as those complaining are reportedly a very small minority.

“… Not up to 10 of them are complaining and most of them are those betraying people” he explains further.

Prior to the imposed lockdown, Kumbo had already been witnessing a longstanding I.passe between separatist fighters and soldiers.

Among their many points of dispute was what park to be used by vehicles going in and out of the town.

Neighboring villages have had to bear their own share of the bloodshed too, as military raids and separatist camps have seen civilians more often than not caught in the crossfire.
