Separatist Leader “Commander Iron”, One other Killed in Bamenda

Amidst the ongoing unrest in Bamenda, Northwest Cameroon, two bodies were found this morning on Mancho Street. The individuals have been identified as “Commander Iron,” the leader of an armed group, and Ndifor Nickson, who is believed to be another separatist fighter.

Tragically, both individuals lost their lives during an operation on July 10th, 2024. According to reports, a fighter was allegedly captured in the Rendezvous quarter and coerced into disclosing the location of Commander Iron. Specifics about the military operation are being kept under wraps.

This incident occurs during a period of heightened tension in the region. Taxis have been compelled to modify their colours, resulting in a spate of separatist attacks targeting them. As a result, the military has ramped up its operations against the armed groups.

Also recently, a retired soldier, who had been forced to leave his hometown of Kumbo and relocate to Bamenda, was shot and killed by separatist fighters.

The Ambazonia separatist movement in Cameroon claims to be advocating for independence for the English-speaking regions. The central government’s response has been forceful, resulting in an ongoing conflict that has caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands and led to numerous casualties.

Most Ambazonia separatist leaders in the diaspora are largely unaffected by the conflict as they continue with their lives without any challenges.
