Separatists Block Bamenda-Mbengwi Road Less Than A Week To Senatorial Elections

By David Atangana

Traffic on the Bamenda-Mbengwi road in the restive North West region has been halted indefinitely, MMI has gathered.

No vehicles were allowed to ply the road Tuesday March 7, 2023.

Reports say public transport and private vehicles were seen parked at Mbon Motor Park in Mbengwi with the usual hustle and bustle absent.

MMI learnt that this was in conjunction with a message circulated by a Separatist movement suspending circulation on the road for what they call ‘military operations against the occupational forces.’

“Mbengwi road is suspended for imminent military operations against the Cameroon occupation forces till further notice,” a message circulated by Capo Daniel spokesperson for the Ambazonia Defense Force, (ADF) an armed separatist militia said.

However, according to information gathered, the government has deployed soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR to contain security threats on the road posed by the Separatists.

A local sources told MMI that: “a control post formally mounted by Separatists around GTHS Mbengwi to extort money from road users has now been taken over by state forces.”

But, Chris Anu president of one of the Interim Government (IG) factions said during a Monologue Segment on his TV condemned the actions of the ADF, adding that their atrocities are committed across the North West Region of the country.

“In the face of such criminalities as being perpetrated by AGovC and ADF on ground zero (Anglophone Regions) we are bound to dissociate ourselves from such deplorable treatment treatment of our own civilians population,” Chris Anu said.

It is uncertain as to what happens next as senatorial elections are expected to hold in less than a week’s time across Cameroon — including areas like Mbengwi which is the divisional headquarters of Momo Division.
