Separatists Burn Houses After Killing Two and Kidnapping Others in Mbessa

Houses and market sheds in Asuh, Mbessa, a locality in Boyo division of the restive North West region, were burned by separatists, according to an amateur video obtained by MMI.

Local sources confirmed to MMI that separatist Ambazonia fighters attacked on the night of Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

The area has been a target of attacks against civilians by separatists from Oku in the Bui division over the past three days.

“The destruction continues, though no human lives were lost today, but houses and marketplaces were burned,” a source told MMI, adding, “This is the work of self-styled general Bush Rambo.”

Bush Rambo is a separatist commander based in Oku.

The armed men have killed two people and kidnapped a number of others in the last three days.

Genesis

On Sunday, July 21, the local population protested the kidnapping of a resident by separatist fighters, during which a woman identified as Feyufe Lauratrice Bih was shot dead. Her body was found the next day.

The protest led to an invasion by separatist fighters from Oku on Monday night.

According to confirmed reports, Babeh Diense Ngamsi was killed, Nchindoa Nkain Edmond was injured, and Babeh Mbuh Eric Nkwah and many others were kidnapped.

The village has known no peace since Sunday.

Public authorities have remained silent as the population suffers at the hands of these non-state actors.
