North West Regional Assembly
Separatists who have for nearly eight years been fighting for an independent state called ‘Ambazonia’ in Anglophone Cameroon have kidnapped a member of the North West Regional Assembly in Ngie.
Ngie is located in the Momo Division, North West Region of Cameroon.
Stephen Ujambeng Ando was picked up on May 22, 2023, a few days after taking part in the National Unity Day celebrations on May 20.
He was abducted alongside Asumba Agharih, the president of the youth wing of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (YCPDM) in Momo 1V, Ngie and a host of others.
A spokesman for the Separatist movement, Capo Daniel whose real name is Ndong Emmanuel, confirmed in a Facebook outing that, Ambazonia Defense Force, ADF a separatist militia carried out the act.
“Congratulations to our ADF forces for the arrest of an enabler and wanted criminal for misrepresenting himself as a parliamentarian for Ngie without any election,” said Capo Daniel.
“The CPDM Section President for Momo IV section in Ngie Stephen Ujambeng Ando have been arrested after taking part in the banned 20 May celebrations in Ngie along several others,” Capo Daniel added.
Their fate hangs on a scale as Capo in his statement said, “We all know the punishment for high treason.”
Public authorities in Cameroon are yet to make a statement.
