Settling scores, incriminating the innocent in the guise of defeating ‘terrorism’

It’s incredibly ludicrous that the pro-Biya regime songbirds and their like-minded cohorts are blockading innocent civilians, allegedly to defeat “terrorist villains”.

While they have since inundated every social media space in pursuance of their campaign, they have been conscripting ‘war criminals’ like those who led the killings in Ngarbuh and Mautu, to inflict death and destruction on the poverty-stricken people of Cameroon’s North West and South West Regions.

Of recent, pro-government social media ‘militiamen’ who may well be feeding fat from the anarchy in the Anglophone regions have branded innocent civilians as “terrorists”.

For the last few weeks, Mimi Mefo Info has received tonnes of complaints from Cameroonians who have been unjustly given “terrorist” tags by the faces behind a Facebook page christened “My Kontri Pipo”.

The stock in trade of these regime lackeys is to get the photos of people and either say they are separatist fighters or that they have one link or another with the separatist movement.

The latest victim of this scores-settling, witch-hunting, and an evil plot hatched by the pro-government internet militia is a person called Japito.
They claim that the young native of Boa Bakundu is an “Amba terrorist” hiding in Douala.

Since February 26, 2021, when this piece of information hit the social media space, Mimi Mefo Info has been doing a background check to authenticate the allegations.
It turned out that the said Japito is a well-known car wash operator at Mbonge Road in Kumba. Since 2010, he has been washing cars for a living after he lost his parents.

Given the hardship brought about by the crisis in the North West and South West Regions, we learned that the young man moved to Douala to seek greener pasture.

Despite their public pretences, those behind specialized in tagging people on Facebook are plainly to even old scores and in doing so to pummel the poor masses into submission.

It is unfortunate that even without thorough investigations; security forces have arrested and detained many innocent Cameroonians following such misleading publications.

If Cameroon wants to pride itself as a state that respects the rule of law, then it must call out those using the current Anglophone crisis to settle scores and destroy the lives of others.
It is an open secret that the state has used Law No. 2014/028 of 23 December 2014 on the suppression of acts of terrorism cohorts to silence their enemies. Individuals who claim to be on the government bench against the Ambazonia movement are also weighing in on this law which defines terrorism so broadly as to limit the rights of innocent citizens.

Mimi Mefo Info understands that some of these Facebook pages are run by repentant Ambazonia fighters who will space no opportunity to harm their enemies, even those they made before the start of the ongoing conflict.

The state must be wise and tread with caution. That an ex-separatist fighter led them to kill innocent people in Ngarbuh should serve as a lesson to the state security.

The state should assume its responsibility and resolve the crisis, lest political merchants will continue to reap dividends while the masses bleed and die. President Paul Biya’s impetuosity could result in long-term damage to the nation even decades after the ongoing crisis.
