Several persons who are members of at least 300 families displaced because of the installation of a modular solar plant in Diamare division of the Far North region have lamented over what they say is compensation given only to 10 families.
It is reported that there are about 300 families that were forced to abandon their houses and farmlands following the selection of the site for the solar project.
The sum of 51,882,480 FCFA ( Fifty one million, eight hundred and eighty-two thousand, eight hundred and forty francs) was distributed to the 10 families who posses land titles.
” We are very happy with what has been given to us. Luckily enough I was one of those with a land tittle, reasonI was indemnified,” a beneficiary said.
Meanwhile hundreds of families did not receive a dime from the government as they have no land certificates.
The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO of the Diamare , in an interview on the issue said: “The government is implementing certain projects in the Diamaré so as to enable the population have constant energy supply. However this had a negative impact on some persons, reason the Head of state instructed that the victims be indemnified. ” The installation of the solar plant is to tackle recurrent power failures in the Far North region.
