Soldier attempts suicide after girlfriend cheats on him

A soldier with the Cameroon army whose name MMI got as Caporal Naussi has been hospitalized at Maroua Military Hospital after attempting suicide over his girlfriend cheating on him.

He reportedly tried to blow his brains with his gun, but this did not work out as planned, as he was rescued and hospitalised on March 9.

The incident happened at Mora where the soldier was based, several kilometres from Maroua, the Far North Regional Capital.

“In fact the said Caporal was in a combat zone when he learned that two of his colleagues passed the night in his house having funtime with his girlfriend,” a source familiar with the situation told MMI.

“He used his rifle to fire himself through the mouth and, fortunately, the bullet didn’t explode the brain,” the source further revealed.

Reports say the girlfriend, whose only name we got as Nadia, is also hospitalised after attempting suicide upon hearing about his boyfriend’s suicide attempt.

She reportedly drank fuel in a suicidal attempt but was also rescued and taken to the Mora hospital.
