Soldier Dies in Mamfe Car Accident, Driver on the Run

A soldier from the Besongabang military barracks died after his car collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle from Ekok.

The accident occurred Sunday, October 27, at Antenna Junction in Banya, a quarter in Mamfe, headquarters of the Manyu Division of the South West Region.

Eric Efiong, who witnessed the accident, recounted: “The soldier was on a call, talking to that girl in the video. He was at top speed when he went head-on with the oncoming vehicle from Ekok.”

Efiong recalled staying at the site until the arrival of military personnel.

The driver of the private car reportedly fled immediately after the crash, abandoning his vehicle.

In response, Mamfe authorities have heightened security, issuing a red alert across the region to locate the runaway driver.

The Mamfe-Ekok road has been prone to accidents recently, with drivers often blamed for recklessness.
