Southwest Region: ‘Clando’, taxi drivers at loggerheads over right to use Kumba-Mamfe road

There has been an uproar amongst local drivers in the city of Kumba with conflicts of interest arising from the plying of the Kumba-Mamfe road.

Small car transporters otherwise referred to as “Clando Drivers” have complained bitterly against taxi drivers of Kumba for venturing out of town into the Kumba-Mamfe road, which is supposedly out of their sphere of influence.

The decision by the taximen to extend their lines of duty to the highway has proven costly to the clando drivers who have complain of having lost their passengers.

A complaint to this effect was tabled to the authorities of the Kumba City Council. The Clando drivers told the city council administrators that should nothing be done, they would be forced to use radical means to stop the taxi drivers from trespassing on their roads.

Following the complaints, however, the Secretary General of the Kumba City Council has ordered the taxi drivers to leave Texaco Fiango area where they have been converging to load passengers at the detriment of their counterparts.

It is said that taxi drivers found at the area would have his taxi seized and would also pay a fine of at least 50,000FCFA.
