Sports Minister gives 10-day ultimatum for completion of ongoing stadia projects in Douala

Access road to Japoma 50,000 capacity stadium in Douala remains a problem.

The minister of sports and physical education visiting football stadia in Douala Tuesday January 21 demands road contractors to complete work before an inspection visit from the Confederation of African Football CAF billed for February 9th 2020.

At Japoma and Omnisport stadia, Minister Narcise Mouelle Kombi expressed disappointment over the non construction of parking space. He has therefore given ten days from January 22 for the construction.

At Omnisport Annex training stadium, some experts have noticed the construction of what they call “unnecessary pillar” in front of the main tribune. They argue that the pillar upon completion of the stadium will be an impediment to journalists taking images and spectators in the tribune.

At Mbapellepe and Bonamousadi training stadia, the water system is not working.

Questioned by the minister on why there is no water, Constant Moukoko; contractor of the stadia told the minister that workers in charge of the water system were not present.

The stadia are to host matches for the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon from the 9th of January to February 6th 2021.
