Stray bullet kills young man in Bambui

A young man whose identity is yet to be uncovered has died after he was reportedly hit by a stray bullet in Bambui.

The shocking incident occurred Sunday, June 30, at Four Corners in Bambui, a locality on the outskirts of Bamenda, in the North West Region of Cameroon.

Local sources say the locality was engulfed by gunshots on the day the young man was shot dead.

Some sources claimed he was killed by a stray bullet during a gunfire exchange between Government soldiers and Ambazonia separatist fighters.

The deceased, MMI gathered, was walking on the street at the time of the shooting when he was gunned down.

“There were serious gunshots today at around 2:00 pm in Bambui. We do not know what the problem was,” said an eyewitness.

“This young boy who was on the street was hit by a stray bullet from the shooting,” he added.

Bambui is one of the areas hardest hit by the armed conflict in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions. The area is also where separatists opened fire at a local bar on May 14 and killed the bartender, a woman, and two soldiers.

Regular clashes between government forces and the separatist fighters have been causing a nightmare to the local population.
