Suspect arrested over killing of girl in Bamenda by alleged separatist fighters

Days back a young girl, Treasure was brutally murdered in Bamenda, North West region of Cameroon. As part of ongoing investigation, a suspect has been arrested and is being held by the forces of law and order.

In a video making rounds on social media, the girl’s killers, suspected separatist fighters kept boasting over the corpse, warning against “blacklegs” in the town.

The person arrested is however an individual she was pictured dancing with earlier before being killed.

In an amateur video made by security forces, he denies knowing the girl prior to the day he took a video with her. “That was the first day I was meeting her, it was at a birthday party.”

He also notes that though the girl was pictured in both videos with the same dress, she was not killed on the same day.

Treasure is not the first civilian to lose her life because of the Anglophone crisis. Several others have also had to lose limbs and body parts for allegedly having any relationship with the military or for attending classes.
