Suspected plantain thief lynched to death in Kumba

A suspected plantain thief has been lynched to death in the Fiango neighborhood, Kumba II Subdivision, Meme division, in the South West Region.

The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

The victim was reportedly caught transporting some bunches of plantain whose source he could not justify. A theft alarm was raised against him, causing the population to pounce on him, beating him to death.

The mob lynched the suspected thief to death before the arrival and intervention of Gendarmes.

“Many attributed the alleged banditry to poverty and hunger caused by the frequent lockdown in the city. Some individuals have condemned the killing of the man for stealing a few bunches of plantains to wade off hunger while armed men perpetrate grave criminal atrocities and are celebrated by the very population that lynched the alleged plantain thief ” reported Express FM Radio 91.5

The mortal remains of the man have been taken to the mortuary of the Kumba Regional Hospital Annex, while investigations have been opened by the forces of law and order.
