The Swiss government has restated its commitment in assisting Cameroon resolve the ongoing armed conflict in the Anglophone regions of the country.

The engagement was re-echoed monday by the Swiss Ambassador to Cameroon, Pietro Lazzeri during an audience granted by President Paul Biya at the Unity Palace.

Pietro Lazzeri was bearer of a sealed message to Etoudi

“Ambassador Pietro Lazzeri came along with a special message from the Swiss President,” Paul Biya wrote on facebook.

This is the first time Cameroon’s president is meeting the Swiss diplomat after the major National dialogue and the arrest of Muslim Scholar, Abdul Karim Ali.

The Swiss government has maintained, it is ready to mediate and address the Anglophone crisis which is now its third year. “We had the opportunity to discuss our bilateral relations and discuss the crisis. Switzerland will continue to seek ways of mediating in the crisis in objectivity, confidentiality,” Lazzeri said after meeting with Paul Biya.

The meeting comes at the time when the award of the management of activities at the Ports Authority of Douala to a Swiss based company has been halted by President Paul Biya.

The President asked the General Manager of PAD, to wait until the Administrative Court in Douala decides on a case pitting the Port and french Company, Bollore. It is believed that Paul Biya’s visit to France and meeting with Emmanuel Macron, brought back Bollore into the bid.
