Sylvester Madu Released After Four nights in Custody; Two Crew Members Hospitalized

Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu, known as Shina Rambo, has been released from custody following the tragic incident at Big G Snack Bar, where five people lost their lives and nine others were wounded. The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam confirmed the release in an official statement.

Madu regained his freedom this Wednesday after spending four nights in custody. Since the incident on Saturday, he, along with other crew members and the owner of Big G Snack Bar, had been arrested and held at the judicial police facility in Bamenda.

Sources revealed to MMI that Sylvester Madu was released after appearing before the military court in Bamenda, and his personal documents were returned to him. However, other crew members remain in detention.

Additionally, it was learned that two crew members were urgently taken to the hospital today due to signs of ill health.

Sylvester Madu had visited Bamenda to participate in the filming of the movie “Abakwa” and to advocate against drug consumption. Reports suggest that he had also planned to meet with fans at Big G Snack Bar when gunmen opened fire, resulting in five fatalities and nine injuries.

The attack has been widely attributed to drug dealers, with speculation that the “no to drug” campaign posed a threat to their lucrative business. Currently, a total of eight individuals remain in police custody in connection to the incident.

There are some schools of thought that argue that the attack was orchestrated by Ambazonia separatists, who felt that the shooting of the movie ‘Abakwa’ and the social media hype created by the Nigerian actor’s presence, would give the impression that there was normalcy in Bamenda.
