TaxiGo: ALO Technologies says December launch remains on course

ALO Technologies says preparations for its TaxiGo airport transport service are continuing, with an official commercial launch planned for December 2026 at Douala and Yaoundé-Nsimalen international airports.

In written responses to MMI News following its report on the suspension of the project’s rollout, the company said it had received no formal suspension notification from its institutional partner, Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC).

“To date, ALO Technologies has received no formal suspension notification from its institutional partner, Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC S.A.),” the company’s communications department said.

It said preparatory activities were continuing in consultation with ADC and Cameroon’s Ministry of Transport.

“We are continuing our preparatory work in accordance with the agreed timetable, in ongoing consultation with the competent authorities, with a view to the official commercial launch scheduled for December 2026,” it stated.

Technical meeting scheduled with ADC

In a further email sent to MMI News on October 15, ALO announced a technical and operational meeting with ADC’s management scheduled for October 16.

The company said the meeting would address arrangements involving new BAIC X35 vehicles, tracking technology, electronic payments and its proposed operating model for drivers.

“This stage aims to finalise the remaining technical adjustments,” ALO said, listing vehicle comfort, IoT/Teltonika tracking, integration of the VinusPAY payment gateway and activation of what it called a “ZERO CHARGE” social model for drivers.

ALO said November would be used to complete team training ahead of the December launch.

The correspondence follows MMI News’s reporting on the airport project and objections raised by transport unions. ALO described the communications circulating about the suspension as a temporary measure intended to calm tensions.

“The circular or communications currently circulating are part of a temporary effort to ease tensions,” the company said, accusing some traditional taxi unions of using their professional grievances to create disorder at the airports.

ALO says existing drivers were invited to join

The company said integrating drivers already operating at the two airports had been a priority from the project’s outset.

“From the inception of the project, under the direct impetus of ADC S.A.’s General Management, priority was given to integrating transport operators and drivers already present at the Douala and Yaoundé-Nsimalen airport sites,” it said.

ALO supplied a photographic report recording information meetings in Douala on May 19 and Yaoundé-Nsimalen on May 28, 2026. The report includes photographs of presentations, discussions with participants and a demonstration vehicle.

According to ALO, the meetings introduced its “driver-entrepreneur” model and explained the project’s technical, financial and operational arrangements. Its report identifies vehicle supplier B2BS Automobile and insurer Activa as participants in the Yaoundé presentation.

“The objective was to offer them the opportunity to join the TaxiGo ecosystem and develop their activity,” the company said.

ALO said driver representatives subsequently declined the offer in written correspondence to ADC’s director general, preferring to retain their existing vehicle arrangements.

The letters supplied by the company include a May 26 response from Douala airport taxi representatives, who said many drivers were already repaying vehicles acquired through lease-to-own agreements. Another letter bearing the Yaoundé-Nsimalen drivers’ association stamp expressed a preference for continuing to operate existing vehicles.

ALO also maintained that traditional operators had no formal exclusivity agreement with ADC and said recruitment had consequently been opened to other drivers interested in joining the project.

Booking, tracking and electronic payments

ALO described TaxiGo as a connected transport service combining airport journeys with digital booking, vehicle tracking and electronic payments.

“TaxiGo’s pricing is not limited to a simple journey,” the company said.

According to its response, the service will include reservations through the GO application, new BAIC X35 vehicles with onboard Wi-Fi, real-time tracking and payments through VinusPAY.

ALO linked its approach to International Civil Aviation Organization recommendations concerning digitalisation, traceability and the security of transport movements at international airports.

The company also said it was working with an international technical partner, which it described as providing technological support for Uber and owning Transport2Go in South Africa.

Company rejects claims of a threat to employment

ALO rejected descriptions of TaxiGo as a danger to existing airport transport workers.

“TaxiGo is neither a ‘dangerous’ project nor a threat to local employment,” it said.

In its October 15 email, the company maintained that the project was intended to improve passenger services while providing decent incomes and working conditions for Cameroonian drivers.

ALO said it remained focused on preparations with its institutional partners.

“We thank you for the impartiality and professional treatment you will give this information,” its communications department wrote to MMI News.
