Teachers in the NorthWest region have pledged to be steadfast and stay professional despite the crisis in the region that has hit hard on the educational sector. They have promised to revive the teaching sector currently under attacks by armed men.
The teachers made the renewed engagement yesterday October 5th in BAMENDA as they joined their counterparts to commemorate the 28th edition of the world teachers day.
For five years, teachers in the northwest region have been subject to kidnappings,threats and assassinations as they strive to revive education in the region.
According to Tame Valentine, national president of teachers of cameroon, TAC ,there is need to promote education in the region. “The teaching profession is loosing it’s essence.while others are moving to an ultratechnological stage, we are moving back to the dark ages” he lamented.
According to the regional delegate for secondary education, Wilfred Wambeng Ndong, education actors in the region have adopted new strategies to encourage learning at all levels.
“Students should come to school 9n Saturday and study online to make sure students prepare well to face end of course examinations” the delegate said.
The secretary general at the governor office, Viang Mekalla while decorating some 50 teachers from basic and secondary education sectors, urged them not to abandon learners who depend on them for education especially at this crucial moment.
