Teenager Killed, Others Injured in Gun Attack in Bamenda

By Zera Nambu

A teenager was killed and at least two children were seriously injured in an attack in the Centre-poll neighborhood of Nkwen, Bamenda III Subdivision, on Monday, September 1.

The Gunmen, suspected to be separatist fighters, reportedly stormed a compound and opened fire indiscriminately.

The deceased has been identified as the daughter of one Mr. Asafor Kingsley. The injured are currently receiving urgent medical care at a local hospital.

This marks the second deadly attack in Centre-poll within the past month, raising serious concerns about the increasing violence in the North West regional capital.

On August 12, Nchamukong Harrison Amungwa, a well-known businessman in the community, was killed in a similar attack. He was laid to rest on August 28.

The repeated violence has left residents living in constant fear. A city, speaking to MMI off-the-record, said they live in fear and are relying solely on God’s grace.

Monday’s attack comes just a week to school resumption for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The start of previous academic years has usually been marked by increased separatist violence as schools remain a target for separatists.
