Mobile telephone company, MTN-Cameroon has been accused of abandoning an 18-year-old girl, Ngassam Fortune, after she was struck by two poles belonging to the company in Yaoundé. Ngassam is now bed-ridden.
She was hit by the poles on April 3, 2021. According to United4Cameroon, a non-profit organization assisting the girl, MTN-Cameroon has refused to take responsibility for the teenagers condition, and has left her to her fate.
United4Cameroon has also revealed that the company has blatantly refused reaching out to the girl’s family despite having been informed of the damage caused and her medical condition.
The girl’s family’s limited financial resources have also limited them from funding the operations necessary for her recovery. Ngassam is currently paralyzed from her neck right down to her feet according to the NGO.
“Very soon she will develope buttock pressure sore due to the prolonged lying position, the infection from the bedsore will go up to the brain of the child who will begin to convulse repeatedly and may eventually fall into a deep coma,” the NGO has claimed. MTN Cameroon meanwhile has not yet reacted to these accusations.
