Ten Reported Dead in Douala-Yaounde Road Accident

News reaching MMI says at least 10 people have died and several others have been injured in a car accident on the Douala-Yaounde road on the night of Wednesday, April 9. The tragedy occurred at Pouma, about 45 kilometers from Edea in the Littoral Region.

A transport vehicle belonging to United Express reportedly crashed into a truck that had broken down by the roadside, leading to several fatalities.

At the time of this report, there was no official figure on the number of deaths, injuries, or the cause of the accident.

However, My Media Prime TV and other media sources have reported at least 10 deaths resulting from the accident.

Recurrent Situation

The tragedy comes as some Cameroonians are still mourning their loved ones who perished in a ghastly car crash along the Yaounde-Bafoussam road.

MMI reported that the accident occurred on Monday night when a transport bus brushed into a tomato-carrying truck and left at least three dead on the spot and several injured.

On the Bafoussam–Foumban road, another accident on Monday left two dead, CRTV reported, after two dump trucks collided at Benefo, Bafoussam I Subdivision.

The fatalities were people going about their routines—a passerby woman hit by the crashing trucks, which also killed a man inside his roadside house.

The recent accidents add to an extensive list of road tragedies over the last two weeks in Cameroon, claiming many lives and causing enormous property losses.

Last week, at least six perished in a dreadful car crash around the Mutengene Police College in the South West Region, leaving families in devastation.

Road accidents have continued to take a toll on lives in Cameroon, amid concerns of bad and narrow roads, bad driving, and unchecked state vehicles.

While the nature of roads remains a major concern in the country, the government has doubled down on efforts to combat driver-induced accidents by temporarily suspending licenses of drivers deemed to have contributed to accidents.
