Tenant and Landlord Clash Over Dead Rats in Douala

Tensions have escalated between a tenant, identified as Roger, and his landlord in Douala over the fate of two dead rats. This comes after Roger’s successful killing of two rats that had been plaguing his residence, and the landlord insists he must have custody of the carcasses.

Roger, fed up with months of sleepless nights due to rats wreaking havoc on his belongings, finally managed to kill two of the troublesome rodents. Frustrated, he declared, “For the past months, I have been living in this house with rats who have destroyed almost all my belongings, including clothes and food items. I have tried to eliminate them on several occasions without success. I am relieved to have killed two and will continue until I completely rid them from my home. I am tired of all this.”

Surprisingly, Roger’s landlord, who had taken no action despite numerous complaints, approached Roger and requested the dead bodies of the rats.

Roger responded to the unusual request by explaining that he had thrown away the rat carcasses because he saw no reason to keep such waste. The landlord, without revealing the motive behind his request, has been accused of witchcraft by residents in the neighborhood.

“If this is not witchcraft, then I do not know what it is. Why would a person want the dead bodies of rats if not for obscure reasons?” questioned one resident.

“I am already suspicious of this landlord. Perhaps he has been associated with those rats. He probably wants to extract certain parts from their dead bodies. This is witchcraft,” added another resident.

The incident has sparked outrage in the neighbourhood, with many pointing fingers at the landlord for various mystical events in the area. The landlord continues to press Roger for the dead rats, while the tenant insists he no longer knows their whereabouts.

This occurrence is not unique to Roger, as many households in Douala and other regions find themselves cohabiting with rats. Eliminating them becomes challenging, as attempts to kill them often result in their multiplication, a phenomenon mirrored by cockroaches.
