The Nurse Who administered Injections on Mohbad before his Death is to be Prosecuted.

On 25 February 2025, in a ruling, Nigerian magistrate Ejiro Kubenji stated that the popular Nigerian musician Naira Marley who was the prime suspect of Mohbad’s death, had no case to answer concerning Mohbad’s death. Instead, the Lagos Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) stated that it would prosecute Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to Mohbad before his death.

The court also cleared the music promoter Samson Balogun, popularly known as Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Primeboy; and the former manager of Mohbad, Opere Babatunde.

However, the DPP stated that it would prosecute Feyisayo, the nurse who administered treatment to Mohbad and Ayobami Sadiq, one of Mohbad’s friends, in reckless and negligent acts, violating Section 251 of the Nigerian Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2025.

Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, was born on June 8, 1996. He was a Nigerian singer, rapper, and songwriter known for his contributions to Afrobeats and street-pop music. Born on June 8, 1996, he gained popularity with hits like KPK (Ko Por Ke) featuring Rexxie and Feel Good.

Background

Mohbad was formerly signed to Marlian Music, the record label owned by Naira Marley, but he left in 2022 due to alleged disputes and mistreatment.

Tragically, Ilerioluwa passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. His sudden death sparked controversy on social media, with colleagues and fans demanding justice, and some speculating the involvement of Naira Marley and other individuals in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Naira Marley and Sam Larry faced arrest in October 2023 due to allegations linking them to Mohbad’s death. Authorities granted them bail in November 2023 after they spent over five weeks in detention, which further fuelled public outcry. The police investigation, which garnered significant media attention, focused on various potential causes for the singer’s tragic demise.

The Lagos police had previously identified Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to Mohbad, as “the prime suspect” in the singer’s death. Mohbad passed away after receiving an injection from the auxiliary nurse.

Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos State police commissioner, said Ogedengbe “administered multiple and highly potent injections, which triggered an immediate reaction that eventually occasioned the death of Mohbad.”

The commissioner stated that the injections, which included tetanus toxoid, paracetamol, and ceftriaxone IV, were administered at Mohbad’s residence. This revelation raised further questions about the nurse’s qualifications, and authorities now focus on investigating the circumstances surrounding the administration of the injection.
