The US Condemns Beheading Of Cameroonian Soldiers In NW/SW

The US Embassy in Cameroon has called for a fair and an independent investigation, after soldiers were dismembered in the conflict hit North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.

This week, at least two soldiers were beheaded and their body parts cut off and thrown on the roads in Muyuka and Bamenda.

Unconfirmed reports say Ambazonian fighters, who have been fighting for the independence of the former British Southern Cameroons, beheaded the soldiers in retaliation to atrocities perpetrated by the military, though government officials have in several outings, described soldiers as professionals and innocent.

In the release April 26th 2019, the US started by condemning both incidents:

“The U.S. Embassy deplores the torture, dismemberment, and beheading of a gendarme in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. We also condemn the reported beheading of a Cameroonian soldier in Bamenda, Northwest Region. We extend our condolences to their families.

We call on anyone with information that could help to identify the perpetrators of these acts to assist lawful authorities and to support a fair and transparent investigation and trial. We urge restraint by police and security forces. Retaliation against these provocations would endanger the civil populace, and will only feed a cycle of violence”.

The US Embassy in Yaounde further underscored the need for both sides to engage in a dialogue without preconditions.
“The violence must stop. Now more than ever, we call on both sides to enter into a broad-based dialogue without preconditions”.
