Atleast three armed separatist fighters have been shot death in Mambim, Babessi Sub-Division, Ngohketunja Division in Cameroon’s restive North West Region.
They were killed in a military ambush Monday April 11, 2023, MMI has learned from sources in Babessi.
Locals say the fighters had kidnapped a lady and were leading her away on a motorcycle when the military “pounced on them.”
Villagers who spoke to MMI said, “This three amba boys were coming everyday and kidnapping people for ransom in that quarter, this was not their first attempt and we have been living in constant fear.”
Some villagers reportedly alerted the military who entered the neighborhood under the cover of the night and took hidden positions.
“On Sunday night, the military entered the quarter unnoticed,” a source told MMI.
Unknown to the fighters, they entered the neighborhood to commit atrocities and were attacked in an ambush by the military.
“They did not notice that the military was around” the source said adding that, “They came and kidnapped one lady in the village but were attacked and killed in an ambush by the military who had taken hidden positions in the bush.”
“The population is happy about this killings. These fighters regularly terrorized the neighborhood. They are now happy that they will likely have some peace,” said our source.
“Am very happy to express my satisfaction towards the killing of three dreaded Ambazonia that were terrorising our community,” added the villager.
