Titus Edzoa Schools Biya On Solutions To Anglophone Crisis

In a letter dated February 13, 2019, Titus Edzoa, former Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon, proposes to President Paul Biya a set of solutions to resolve the tensed socio-political atmosphere in Cameroon.
Titus Edzoa spoke of the crackdown on political opponents, the Anglophone crisis and also lashed out on what he termed, cosmetic or fruitless measures adopted so far by the Biya regime to resolve the Anglophone crisis.

Titus Edzoa urged President Paul Biya to liberate Maurice Kamto, National President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) opposition political party and the over 130 CRM party supporters currently detained in Yaoundé and other locations across the country.

Biya’s ex-confidant in the letter, said the President of the Republic must take urgent steps in order to relax the sickening and tense political atmosphere in Cameroon.

He demanded that rigor be exercised vis-à-vis individuals who vandalized Cameroonian embassies in Paris, France and Berlin, Germany and let them face the law individually for their independent crimes.

The deepening Anglophone crisis and measures taken so far by government to resolve the crises also preoccupied Edzoa.
He cited steps adopted by the government of Cameroon to address the Anglophone crisis, which to him have been ineffective.

Some of the measures he described as ineffective are the recent decision to release 289 detainees of the Anglophone crisis, the fruitless encounters with stakeholders both at the National and International level and the choice of military force to resolve the crises.

He blames Paul Biya for his fully stated determination to use military force as a strategy to end the Anglophone crisis.

Titus Edzoa, a surgeon by training also recalled the unbearable economic consequences of the war on Cameroon. Making reference to GICAM’s report of September 13, 2018, the former minister revealed that Cameroon has lost FCFA 269 billion in key sectors like Agro-industry, local Telecommunication and others, with a corresponding loss of about 14,000 jobs.

The report indicates that about 8,000 jobs have been lost in the formal agro-industrial sector and 6,400 jobs lost in various agro-industrial production sites.
Among the many propositions, Titus Edzoa urges Biya to call for a national dialogue including all stakeholders in the conflict, political parties, and religious and civil society organisations. He demands that Paul Biya grants general amnesty to all arrested or being legally implicated in the Anglophone crisis.
