The BBC reports that Félicien Kabuga, one of the most wanted suspects of the Rwandan genocide, has been arrested.
The French justice ministry announced that he was arrested in a raid in Asnières-sur-Seine, where he had been living under a false identity.
Allegedly the main financier of the ethnic Hutu extremists who slaughtered 800,000 people in 1994, the United States had offered a $5m reward for information that could lead to Kabuga’s arrest.
In addition to the many crimes he is accused of commuting, Kabuga is noted to be the founder and sponsor of the notorious Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines (RTLM).
The media house is recalled for actively encouraging people to search out and kill anyone who was from the Tutsi ethnic group during the genocide.
The 84 year old has been charged by the International Criminal Tribunal with genocide and crimes against humanity.
