One person remains unaccounted for after a boat capsized off the coast of Youpwe-Douala at the weekend. Three bodies were recovered and taken to shore. The boat was heading to Manouka Island when heavy storms in the high sea caused the tragic incident.

Three children are receiving intensive medical assistance at the Tiko District Hospital while four people have been confirmed dead after consuming a common meal. The family is said to have eaten corn fufu and vegetables before drinking a local palm wine called Matango. It however remains unclear what caused the complications.

A negative COVID-19 test result is not a condition for students to gain access into school campuses for the third term as earlier stated by the South West Regional Delegate of Secondary Education. This was witnessed today as schools resumed. Most institutions, however, maintained strict respect of COVID-19 preventive measures.

Education authorities say the third term is the shortest and most decisive of all the terms and have called on students and pupils to pay particular attention to their academics. The third term will end on June 25th.

The Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed in the ten regions of Cameroon. The 200.000 doses to be administered to health workers and other vulnerable persons arrived Cameroon yesterday. The Minister of public health launched the process today in Yaounde with a call for Cameroonians to take the vaccine without fear.

The fear of the COVID-19 vaccine continues to linger in the minds of Cameroonians despite the government’s sensitization. To some Cameroonians, the government over the years has demonstrated bad faith by not telling Cameroonians the truth, the reason why believing in the vaccine remains a problem.
