Trending News Stories in Cameroon – 19th April 2021

The circulation of vehicles and persons was interrupted at Carrefour Elf at the East entrance to the city of Douala this morning. Three persons were later confirmed dead and others wounded as a truck transporting wood collided with a private car.


The Cameroon Consumers Trade Union has launched a campaign against juvenile delinquency in schools. Alphonse Abene Ayisi leading the ten-day campaign says they will visit schools in Douala and Yaounde to sensitize students, teachers, and parents.


Hundreds of parishioners and well-wishers have been gathering at Saint Peter and Paul’s Cathedral in Douala ahead of a vigil for late Cardinal Tumi. Cultural dance groups have been gathering for a performance to pay homage to the Cardinal who is known to have had a particular attachment for tradition.


Archbishop Samuel Kleda has acknowledged the government of Cameroon for sending the Prime Minister to represent the Head of State at the burial of Christian Cardinal Tumi tomorrow. The PM arrived in Douala this afternoon and later received the Archbishop of Douala.


Fai Yengo Francis, national coordinator of the Commission of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration is meeting with stakeholders in the South West to discuss how to solve problems affecting ex-fighters in DDR centers. Since the beginning of this year, ex-fighters in Buea and Bamenda have staged at least four protests against poor management and unfulfilled promises made by the government of Cameroon.


A newly constructed sports complex – Parcours Vita has been inaugurated in Ngaoundere in the Adamawa region of Cameroon. Sports Minister Narcisse Moulle Kombi while chairing the ceremony today called on people to maintain the structure and ensure that sports play a leading role in national unity.
