Trending news stories in Cameroon – 2nd June 2021

Villagers of Ekuru and others around Akwaja in Ako Subdivision in the North West are fleeing to Ako town for safety. This follows a two day continuous shooting by men in military uniforms. At least seven suspected separatists have been killed since yesterday. To locals, those killed are innocent civilians.

Governor Bernard Okalia Bilia of the South West region has threatened Regional Councilors of his region that he will use his powers as a representative of the state to immediately correct any wrong doing when they effectively start work.

2020/2021 academic year has not been a reality in eleven subdivisions in the North West region of Cameroon. The regional delegate of secondary education is calling on Regional Councillors to prioritise the educational sector.

Medical workers in the West region are said to ignore COVID-19 vaccines. Just 61 out of over 400 health workers have taken the COVID-19 Vaccine. To some, they don’t trust the vaccine. The minister of public health has expressed indignation over the situation.
