Twenty four Councilors of Banganté in the West region boycotted an elective Council session today. Despite the presence of the SDO for Ndé Division to supervise the process, the election of a replacement for late Mayor Jonas Kouamo failed to take place. There is a disagreement within the CPDM party on who should be the new mayor.

An association of independent journalists in Cameroon has prayed for the souls of departed journalists. They held a mass at the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Douala today as part of activities to mark world press freedom day.

Two were reportedly arrested in Foumbot in the West region of Cameroon following the setting ablaze of Foumbot court of first instance. An irate population stormed the court and set it on fire when a popular detainee died in detention. Locals say the victim was denied permission to seek effective medical attention out of the facility.

The minister of communication says press freedom is a reality in Cameroon. In a press conference to mark world press freedom Day, Rene Emmanuel Sadi said President Paul Biya has liberalised the press – a declaration rated invalid by some journalists.

549 university lecturers have been recruited to teach in state Universities. This is the second phase of a recruitment excercise ordered by president Paul Biya. Observers think despite the recruitment, the student – lecturer ratio in state Universities remains wide.

Dr. Manaouda Malachie has taken his second and complete dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today. The minister of Public Health took the first dose on the 12th of April. President Paul Biya, should be noted has not taken the vaccine yet.
