Trending news stories in Cameroon – 4th June 2021

Five persons suspected of producing fake travel documents have been presented to the press in Douala by the judicial police. The two were arrested in Yaounde and three in Douala. One of them was caught with a fake visa at the Douala International Airport trying to travel to Europe.


The Limbe City Council has decried poor revenue collection. The Council points accusing fingers at COVID-19 and the anglophone crisis. To the City Mayor Andrew Motanga Monjimba, the breakdown of SONARA has devastating financial effects on the Council.

Some journalists in Cameroon think the conception and setting up of the National Communication Council in Cameroon by the government weakens it as a media regulatory body. A new president of the council, Joseph Chebonkeng has been appointed alongside other members but journalists doubt what will change.
