The second parliamentary session for the year 2021 opens in Yaounde tomorrow. Lawmakers have been converging on Yaounde ahead of the session. Observers say the session has no stakes, not even checking government’s excesses.


Workers of the Cameroon civil Engineering Pool (MATGENIE) are demanding thirteen months salary owed them. They staged a protest today in front of their head office in Yaounde. The administration admits it’s owing, but noted that the company has no subvention from the state but generates its income by working.


There is uncertainty on when the 2021 African Cup of Nations will start in Cameroon. Earlier scheduled to take place on June 25th, 2021, draws of the AFCON have been cancelled with no date slated. Meantime, officials of the Confederation of African Football will visit Cameroon from the 14th to the 16th of June.

The Women African Handball Championship starts in Yaounde tomorrow. Eleven African nations will be taking part. Host country Cameroon will take on Kenya in the opening match.

Eight people have been arrested at Brazzaville neighbourhood in Douala on accusation of disturbing public peace by terrorising people. Security forces say they are members of a gang that has been terrorising and stealing from people.

The draws for the AFCON 2021 scheduled for this June have been postponed at the request of CAF. The postponement is based on logistics concerns.

Students of Terminale of the French Education system today began the written sessions of the Baccalaureat exam. The exams are expected to run till the 31st of July 2021.

A military officer on guard at a colonel’s home today committed suicide while on duty in Odza. It is not yet clear why he killed himself.

The city of Garoua may be written off from hosting AFCON 2021 group games. The town is set to be lacking upto standard hotels and may only be able to host quarter final games and classification games at best.
