“Trial of Sisiku Ayuk Tabe & Co. adjourned without reason” – Barrister Amungwa Nicodemus

“Trial of Sisiku Ayuk Tabe & Co. adjourned without reason” – Barrister Amungwa Nicodemus

Leaders of the self-proclaimed state of Ambazonia will next appear at the Yaoundé Appeal Court in the Centre Region of Cameroon on August 20, 2020.

On why the trial was adjourned from July 16, 2020 to August 20, one of the defending lawyers of the Ambazonian leaders in prison says “We the lawyers defending the Ambazonian leaders are opposed to the fact that the introductory statements of the registrar of the court was not interpreted for our clients who are English-speaking to understand. Instead of taking the correction in good faith, the presiding judge started shouting and suddenly adjourned the trial”.

Defending lawyers regret that the judges usually do not conduct the court in both languages (English and French) thus should as a matter of necessity have an interpreter.

According to Barrister Amungwa, lawyers defending the leaders are disappointed. “Though this is the fouth time the case has been called here, this is the first time Ayuk Tabe and Co have come to the Appeal Court since they were sentenced at the Military Tribunal. We expected the trial session to take place”.

Despite this, Amungwa and others in the defending team say they are leaving no stone unturned ahead of the trial on August 20.

The 10 leaders of Ambazonia were slammed a life sentence last year at the Yaounde military tribunal. A verdict their defending lawyers filled an appeal.
