Trucks crush four to death in Yaounde, Douala

Separate incidents in Douala and Yaounde, located in the Littoral and Centre Regions of Cameroon, have tragically claimed the lives of four individuals. Heavy-duty trucks inadvertently crushed them, causing these unfortunate accidents.

The tragic incidents occurred on the afternoon of Friday, October 13, 2023.

A truck tragically crushed Kecha Odette, a young woman, in the city of Yaounde, leading to her loss of life. She is in her early twenties. Sources state that Odette originates from Kom, Boyo Division, located in the North West Region.

A tragic incident occurred in Douala where a 40-foot truck crushed three individuals, including two teachers and a discipline master, to death.

Local reports indicate that a 40-foot truck overturned on three men who were riding on a motorcycle. The poor condition of the road caused the accident.

A fatal road accident claimed the lives of nine people tragically on the same day. A collision between a Coaster bus and a truck carrying sand caused the accident.

Members of the same family who were travelling to the West Region for a funeral were among the passengers. Currently, various facilities are providing medical care to 25 individuals who were injured in the incident.

Three separate incidents reported a total of 13 deaths on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Human and Economic Costs

Road accidents remain the second leading cause of death after malaria in Cameroon, a middle-income country prone to road accidents. In this context, three main roads concentrate road accidents throughout the country due to the importance of the cities linked by them.

Road accidents incur a significant socio-economic cost. In human terms, just over 1000 deaths and over 6000 injuries have occurred. Road accidents in Cameroon cause economic losses of nearly 100 billion CFA francs per year, which is equivalent to 1% of the GDP during this period.
