Tubah Council tussling over piece of land with University of Bamenda

The senior divisional officer for Mezam is expected to issue a ruling on the land dispute between the university of Bamenda and the Tubah council.

This follows a complaint submitted by the University of Bamenda accusing the Tubah council of encroaching into the university land.

This forced the mayor of Tubah, Tanjong Martin to call a press conference.

During the press conference, the mayor accused the university of Bamenda of retarding the growth of the municipality.

The University of Bamenda has reacted to the recent press briefing in which the Mayor of Tubah municipality, Tanjong Martin accused the university of stifling development in his municipality.

The mayor has been constructing market sheds opposite the Bambili market, a project which the university insists is being carried out on part of its land.

The Mayor during his press briefing insisted that the construction of the market sheds poses no threat to the University of Bamenda as insinuated by the Vice-Chancellor.

In an interview on state media, the director of development, physical planning, and infrastructure, Prof.Fogue Zephaniah explained that the university has already acquired a land title with the approval of higher education officials.

“Even the land certificate carries that it is the land of the ministry of Higher Education and therefore it is state land. The council is building on some 414metres square but what we are saying is that the council is encroaching on the land of the university on a surface area that we have calculated to be 233meters”, Prof. Fogue Zephaniah revealed.

” We thought that it is not proper, the reason why the university decided to submit an objection to the Mezam SDO who is president of the Mezam Lands Commission”, he added.
