Two police officers have died and two others sustained injuries following an accident involving a truck transporting plywood in Limbe, South West Region.
According to preliminary reports, the police officers intercepted the truck during a routine road check. The driver was reportedly asked to present the vehicle’s documents, which led to a brief standoff between him and the officers.
After the exchange, the police instructed the driver to follow them to the station for further verification.
While heading to the police station, the truck reportedly developed a mechanical fault. The breakdown caused the vehicle to lose control, leading to a serious accident.
Two police officers who were inside the truck died on the spot.
Two other officers who had been riding at the back of the vehicle sustained injuries. They were rushed to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
