Two teachers kidnapped in Cameroon’s Far North

Two teachers in Cameroon’s Far North Region are nowhere to be found after they were abducted by gunmen on the night of December 20, 2020.

Koyang Moise and Zra Koie, reports say, are both teachers at the Guidi High school and were taken by men believed to be militants of the Boko Haram sect that has been behind increased attacks on several localities in the region these past weeks.

As the sect spreads terror, locals say the future of their kids and even teachers are uncertain.

“A majority of teachers come from afar to teach our children but with insecurity, I don’t know if our kids will have the chance to have teachers in their schools,” says Zaba Christophe, a worried local.

Security forces and members of the local vigilante groups are said to have gone in search of the abducted teachers but are yet to report any progress.

Many have questioned the level of security in the Far North region, with some suggesting the Cameroon army’s human resources are being stretched thin given the conflict in the country’s minority English-speaking regions.
