The people of Bulu village, Buea subdivision in the South West region of Cameroon have vowed to fight to the last drop of their blood to stop the University of Buea from “seizing ” what they call their ancestral land.
The tussle for the land that saw the destruction of crops planted by students of the university has moved to the corridors of a courtroom.
With this and other legal issues threatening the peaceful existence of the University of Buea, Prof. Ako Edward Ako, pro-chancellor of the university says “…we need a legal department besides the vice-chancellor of UB for constant advice”.
Speaking to the press Friday, December 11th, 2020 in the course of the 38th council session of the institution, the pro-chancellor failed to state if the absence of a legal department was what plunged UB to the land dispute with the people of Bulu village.
The session has voted an 8.9 billion budget for the institution for the year 2021. The budget according to the pro-chancellor has witnessed a 21% reduction as compared to that of 2020.
UB today prides itself on several professional schools and an increase in the number of postgraduate courses offered.
