UB’s journalism department records milestone with two PhD theses defences

Two PhD theses have been defended at the University of Buea’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Held over the weekend, the two candidates, were Nseme Stephen Ndode and Moki Stephen Mokondo.

Moki Stephen’s thesis was titled ‘The content and nature of Cameroon Newspapers coverage of the Cameroon Anglophone Crisis (2016-2019)’.

The English Language papers he focused on for the study were The Post, The Guardian Post, and The Sun.

Among other things, he noted that “Anglophone newspapers paid more attention to the Anglophone crisis in their reports more than Francophone or state newspapers.”

Nseme Stephen’s thesis was titled ‘Professionalisation of training towards a model of excellence for journalism and Mass Communication in Cameroon.’

Arguing for efficiency on the part of all stakeholders in attaining excellence in journalism training, Ndode Stephen says “pedagogy, curriculum content, infrastructural facilities and didactic materials have a correlation with excellent practice.”

He adds: “the culture of excellence has to be instituted and sustained in journalism and mass communication training institutions in Cameroon. By doing so, graduates will better serve the information, education and entertainment needs of society.”

Another Milestone in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication:
Two successful PhD Theses were defended on Friday by Stephen Ndode and Moki Stephen Mokondo.

Both candidates demonstrated mastery of their respective areas of study to earn an ‘A’ grade from the examiners, who described the theses as excellent.
