UN officials fine-tune strategies to tackle humanitarian challenges In Cameroon’s North West Region

Few weeks after setting up a monitoring office in Bamenda in Cameroon’s North West region, the United Nations is fast-tracking measures to deal with the chocking humanitarian crisis triggered by the Anglophone crisis.

This explains why a team from Geneva met with local authorities Wednesday.

Drawn from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, UNHCR and the World Food Program, the delegation made a stop at the North West Governor’s Office where they discussed with Adolphe Lele Lafrique off camera for about an hour.

From the Governor’s Office they met with some Senators and local NGOs where they were briefed on the prevailing situation and what has been done to meet the needs of the growing number of IDPs.

Together with officials implementing the UN’s humanitarian response plan on the ground, a master plan has been drawn to ensure that majority of those affected by the secession conflict are given assistance.

To Senator Henry Kemende, it is fruit of mission the SDF senator paid to the UNHCR Office in Yaoundé. ” We met with our friends and talked with them about the situation in the region and how they can come in. They told us they will open an office here for better coordination of their activities.”

The UN says more than 4 million people are affected by the Anglophone crisis in the North West and South West regions and more than 500.000 are in dire need of emergency assistance. But the fire brand Senator has used the meeting to draw the attention of the international community to the deepening situation, beckoning on the UN to squeeze the Yaoundé regime to address the root cause of the conflict.
