Uneasy Calm Reigns In Bamenda Ahead Of Monday’s Back-to-School

The city of Bamenda today is very calm but busy following the short break after the first week of a three-week ghost town imposed by the separatist leaders. Markets and streets are extremely busy.

Talking to some Bamenda city dwellers, they expressed uncertainty as Monday September 2, 2019 which is officially school resumption date approaches. Our source who refused to be named, said they are happy to move freely this Saturday and do business.

“I am preparing for the next two weeks ghost town which will be observed all over the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon,” he told Mimi Mefo Info.

Motor parks were also crowded with passengers. Many have been scrambling for tickets to travel out of Bamenda for fear of the unknown.
One of them said: “I don’t know what may happen next, in the battle between the military and pro-independence fighters.”
Meanwhile, some shops along the road remained closed. Talking to one of the shop owners who was seated nearby, she said: “It is dangerous because soldiers come and spread bullets at any time and we may be caught in the crossfire.”
