University of Buea mourns official who died at University Games

Sammy Nako Mofema, an official of the University of Buea’s Sports Division, went to Garoua for the ongoing University Games but is being brought back dead.

He reportedly died under unclear circumstances in a hotel room on the second day of the games, where UB is competing in different sporting disciplines alongside over 20 other universities.

This Friday, May 31, members of the University of Buea delegation to Garoua gathered to pay tribute to Mr Nako, as his mortal remains were removed from the Garoua Regional Hospital Mortuary for transportation to Buea.

“The casket carrying his remains is being transported to his hometown in Buea through Douala by CAMAIRCO,” the University said on its official Facebook page.

It is a moment of “grief” and “consternation” for the UB community in Garoua, Buea and elsewhere, as they mourned the loss of a key staff member.

“On behalf of the University Community the Vice-Chancellor extends sincere condolences to his family for this tragedy and thanks the Directors of Students Affairs and Administrative Affairs for facilitating the transportation of the remains of Sammy Nako Mofema back to Buea,” UB wrote.

Sammy Nako Mofema was the Auxiliary Stores Accountant for the University’s Sports Division and was responsible for keeping the institution’s sports equipment.
