The information was disclosed by the University of Buea, UB’s Pro-Chancellor Prof Ako Oben at the end of its Council session on Friday, August 27.
Talking about UB Corporate, the newly-created company, Prof Ako Oben said it will help the university generate income.
“This is a liability company created by the University of Buea to generate income,” he said, adding “What the University has been waiting for was to have the green light from the Council and they have that green light today…”.
“… I’m sure that in the next months and years we will be talking about the UB Corporate Limited; we’ll be talking about this liability company which will be focusing on, among other things, on the issues of solar energy and electric automobile repairs in the University of Buea,” he told the press.
Friday’s Council session aimed at reviewing how UB was managed and financed in 2020.
According to Prof Oben, last year’s budget, which stood at FCFA 11.2 billion, was well-managed, thanks to the expertise of UB’s accountants and record keepers.
The University of Buea Council session involved the institution’s top ranking administrators, including Deans, Directors and Deputy Vice Chancellors of the institution.
The Council session, which held behind closed doors, was the first official occasion attended by UB’s newly-appointed pioneer female Registrar, Prof Eneke Bechem, who was installed this Wednesday alongside other officials appointed at the institution recently.
